According to Sport FM, the EPO accepts that the joint bid to host UEFA Euro 2028 with Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia will not go ahead, so the organisation has now decided to make a bid to host the Europa Conference League final in either 2022 or 2023. Deputy Minister of Sport, Lefteris Avgenakis, wants the match to be played at the Pankritio Stadium in Heraklion, Crete.

The UEFA Europa Conference League, set to be introduced in 2021, will be a third-tier continental competition under the Champions League and Europa League.

FINANCIAL TROUBLES

As previously reported on AGONAsport, the EPO submitted a loan request to FIFA in order to solve the current financial problems which it faces. Yesterday, FIFA sent this following letter to the EPO, asking for the Greek governing body to provide a realistic debt repayment plan and a fact-based debt overview:

A copy of the letter was published by SDNA.

Herbert Hubel, who has been overseeing the workings of the EPO, subsequently revealed that 1.5 million euros must be paid to former national team head coach Angelos Anastasiadis and his assistants by 2020. Hubel also revealed that the EPO has spent 400,000 on the Video Assistant Referee technology and 750,000 on referees for the Football League. “There has been a problem in previous years, otherwise FIFA and UEFA wouldn’t be here,” said Hubel.

It was also stated that Nova owes 700,000 to the EPO.
