ERT slash funding for Super League clubs

Once again, problems have arisen in the Super League concerning television contracts, with state national broadcasting company ERT proposing large cuts to funding available to participating clubs.

On Wednesday evening, reports emerged stating that ERT has proposed slashing funding to Super League clubs by 45%, with Aris, Atromitos, Xanthi, Panetolikos and Lamia all being directly affected by the news. The five clubs in question hold broadcasting contracts with ERT running through the upcoming 2019/2020 season.

Naturally, the respective teams are furious with the decision made by ERT, and an emergency meeting will be called by Super League president Minas Lysandrou in order to find a solution to the problem.

Moreover, ERT has reduced their initial funding for the Super League 2 by 60%, with the league subsequently revealing that the championship won’t start if the organisation goes through with the financial cuts. The Super League 2 is not willing to accept any kind of reduction in funding.

The latest developments will make Panathinaikos even more relieved that they managed to secure a broadcasting deal with Nova. Yesterday, an official statement was released by Nova, revealing that they now hold the rights to broadcast all Panathinaikos home matches in the 2019/2020 Super League season as well as friendly games.
