After a devastating loss to Fenerbahce in the 2017 EuroLeague Final, Olympiacos set out for a redemption during this time around; however, things didn’t go to plan for the Piraeus giants.

Despite an overall strong run during the regular season that saw the Erythrolefki finish in third place in the standings, a dismal performance in the playoff round saw Ioannis Sfairopoulos crash out after a 3-1 series defeat at the hands of Zalgiris Kaunas.

With the arrival of the playoff round, the warts in Olympiacos’ game began to reveal themselves. The worst offense heading into the playoffs continued to show their struggles as Olympiacos found it difficult to find the basket against Zalgiris.

Unfortunately for Olympiacos, the stingy defense that helped the Piraeus outfit overcome offensive struggles time after time during the regular season was nowhere to be found in the series against Zalgiris.

Brandon Davies couldn’t be stopped by Olympiacos’ weak interior defense, which appear to be hindered by nagging injuries to Olympiacos’ big men – most notably Nikola Milutinov, who is also rumoured to be leaving the club at the end of the season.

With another European campaign behind them, Olympiacos will look to convert on their final chance at silverware this season as the Piraeus giants look to dethrone Panathinaikos with a successful run in the Greek Basket League playoffs.
