Ferreira to continue coaching PAOK in new season

Despite a rocky 2019/2020 campaign, reports have indicated that Abel Ferreira will definitely continue working as the head coach of PAOK next season, while Ivan Savvidis wants to construct a new training centre.

His first season in charge hasn’t quite gone to plan. Last summer, PAOK failed to qualify for the group stage of a European tournament after losing to Ajax and Slovan Bratislava respectively, and the Dikefalos tou Vorra now find themselves 14 points behind Olympiacos in the Super League after a poor start to 2020 and a seven-point deduction for their involvement in a multi-ownership case. Several underwhelming performances have promoted talk of Ferreira losing his job.

Nevertheless, despite the tough campaign, Ferreira looks set to remain the PAOK boss for the 2020/2021 season.

PAOK owner, Ivan Savvidis, recently asked Ferreira to submit his thoughts concerning possible plans for the summer transfer window. The 2019 Greek champions are set to sell their leading lights and invest in youth as a result of Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions.

Sportime also suggested that Ivan’s son, Giorgos Savvidis, will play a more active role in signing new players.

Ferreira, 41, has registered 24 victories, six draws and five defeats since replacing Razvan Lucescu as PAOK coach in July 2019.

NEW TRAINING CENTRE ON THE CARDS

The PAOK management has also put plans in place for the construction of a new training centre to replace the existing facility which is located in Nea Mesimvria.

With the under 19 PAOK side winning the Super League in three straight years, and considering the fact that the club’s academy is already one of the best in the country, Savvidis wants to develop further and construct a state-of-the-art training base for all youth and senior teams. Moreover, Savvidis has issued an instruction for improvements to be made to the current training centre for the time being.
