AEL Limassol hosted APOEL at the Tsirion Stadio in Limassol. APOEL came out determined to take control and they fired off a warning blow 8 minutes in, as a strike from Roberto Lago screamed off the bar. However, just 3 minutes later, the hosts copped a surprise goal from Marios Elia, who barely got enough of a touch on an incoming cross from David Teixeira off a counterattack. Undaunted, the visitors continued to carry the play and answered quickly. Emilio Nsue’s shot was saved point blank by the AEL keeper Vozinha, but Dellatorre pounced on the rebound and levelled the score. Nsue came knocking again, but Vozinha denied him, and Roland Sallai on the rebound. In first half stoppage time, Ghayas Zahid snuck a pass through a cloud of yellow AEL shirts and set up Mickael Pote, who gave APOEL a 2:1 halftime lead.

AEL found their way into the match in the second half, but APOEL defended well, and Nauzet Perez only had to make routine saves to keep his team ahead. APOEL never looked back and they hung on for the 2:1 win. APOEL are now 4 points clear of Apollon in first place, and could lock up their 6th consecutive championship as soon as tomorrow when Apollon host AEK Larnaca. If not, APOEL will still control their own destiny going into next week’s season finale when they host Anorthosis. AEL are locked into 5th place.
