As a result of receiving a two-match stadium ban, Olympiacos were forced to host AEL inside an empty arena in Piraeus, but it made little difference as the home team cruised to a routine win which keeps the club in first place of the Super League standings.

AEL, on the other hand, conceded their second consecutive loss and currently occupy seventh position of the table with 19 points from 15 games.

Giorgos Masouras scored a quick-fire brace, before Hillal Soudani and Youssef El Arabi - from the penalty spot - ended the game as a contest inside 35 minutes. Amr Warda grabbed a consolation for AEL in the second half.

Olympiacos will face Volos NFC on the road at the weekend, while AEL host Panionios in Larissa.

THE MATCH

Olympiacos, full of confidence after thrashing Asteras 5-0 on Sunday, came flying out of the blocks and promptly quashed any AEL hopes of causing an unlikely upset.

Masouras, who had scored twice in the beating of Asteras three days ago, opened the scoring in the ninth minute as he cleverly turned Konstantinos Tsimikas’ cross into the net. The 25-year-old then registered his second goal just two minutes later, successfully connecting with Soudani’s pass to beat the goalkeeper with ease.

Stunned AEL, who had performed well against the top sides this season until this game, never recovered from that dreadful start.

With a mere 17 minutes on the clock, Soudani increased the Olympiacos lead to three, bursting past his marker on the right wing and catching the AEL goalkeeper cold near post.

AEL didn’t help their cause. In the 37th minute, Vangelis Moras contrived to clumsily push El Arabi to the floor inside the box, and the latter brushed himself down to dispatch the ensuing penalty.

Nevertheless, AEL did respond in the second half, and they scored from a seemingly harmless situation.

Bruno Gaspar inadvertently found Warda with a wayward pass, the Egyptian took aim from long range, and his low attempt somehow got the better of Jose Sa.

Olympiacos comfortably saw out the remaining half an hour to secure another important three-point haul.
