Goals from Sito and Eneko Capilla after 13 and 21 minutes respectively gave the home side a comfortable and deserved 2-0 lead at half-time, paving the way for Milan Rastavac’s men to finally get their fourth win of the season.

Asteras had the ball in the back of the net again just after the hour mark but Angel Ortega Martinez’s effort was correctly ruled out for offside following a VAR review. The home side wrapped up the win with three late goals from Luis Ferandez (82), Jeronimo Barrales (90+1) and Dani Suarez (90+5).

Xanthi’s only real threatening moment came shortly after that in the 67th minute but Fabian Sturgeon’s shot was saved well by Nikos Papadopoulos in the Asteras goal.

Asteras came into the match third from bottom in the table, and without a win since Monday October 28 on Matchday 8.

After this win, the Tripoli outfit remain in the same position, but they are now within two points of Volos, while Xanthi are seventh with 20 points from their 16 matches, and the Akrites will be hoping for a change of fortunes in the New Year.
