Felipe Pardo’s early opening goal and further strikes from Alberto Botia and Pape Abou Cisse in a blistering first-half display put Takis Lemonis’ team in full control, with Karim Ansirafard and Pardo adding further gloss on the scoreline after half-time.

The result allowed Olympiacos to climb up to fourth spot in the table with 17 points, just three points behind leaders PAOK, who face AEK at the Olympic stadium in Sunday’s late derby clash.

It was a welcome return to winning ways for the reigning champions, who lost 1-0 to Panathinaikos last time out, but managed to carry the good vibes created generated from the mid-week draw with Barcelona in the Champions League to comprehensively outplay their Cretan opponents.

Pardo’s opener came after a mistake by Platanias’ Brazilian defender Vanderson, whose poor clearance fell straight to the Colombian in front of goal.

Marko Marin then picked out defenders Botia and Cisse from two corners, and both big men scored with powerful headers.

Although the home side’s rhythm of play dropped after the half-time interval, Iran forward Ansirafard made it 4-0 from the penalty spot, before the visitors grabbed a consolation goal courtesy of striker Giannis Papanikolaou.

There was still time for one more goal, however, and it came Olmypiacos’ way with Pardo clinically firing in his second of the night and his team’s fifth in the last minute with a powerful diagonal shot.

There was a moment of controversy when the kick-off was delayed by several minutes due to an offensive banner.

Olympiacos’ Gate 7 ultras unfurled a huge flag featuring the names of the Platanias players who took part in the legal case against the Piraeus giants last season for an alleged fracas in the dressing rooms. Along with a list of names, the headline read: “Paid pseudo-witnesses”.
