Former EuroLeague winner Rice joins Panathinaikos

Tyrese Rice, who was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2018/2019 Basketball Champions League, has penned a one-year deal with Panathinaikos BC.

Panathinaikos released this following statement on Monday:

“Panathinaikos OPAP BC announces the signing of Tyrese Rice for next season.”

Rice arrives as a free agent after leaving Brose Bamberg upon the completion of the 2018/2019 season.

In that particular campaign, the 32-year-old American point guard was in superb form with the German club, becoming the MVP of the Basketball Champions League after leading Bamberg to the Final Four. Rice averaged 16.4 points, 4.4 assists and 2.4 rebounds with Bamberg in the competition.

Rice is a former EuroLeague champion. In the 2013/2014 season, Rice was a part of the Maccabi Tel Aviv side which claimed the EuroLeague title, tallying an impressive 26 points in the victory against Real Madrid in the final. Rice was named the MVP of the EuroLeague Final Four in that season.

Just a year later, Rice once again won a European trophy, inspiring Khimki to the 2014/2015 EuroCup. Once again, he was a key member of the winning team, receiving the title of the EuroCup Final Four MVP. Rice was also named the MVP of the entire EuroCup campaign.

In the past, Rice has also played for Panionios, Artland, Lietuvos Rytas, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Shenzhen. Rice represents the Montenegrin national team on the international stage.
