It was a season to remember for Fountas. In superb shape throughout the campaign, the 24-year-old Greek forward was on fire for Rapid, tallying 18 goals and six assists in the Bundesliga to help the Vienna-based organisation finish in second position and gain a shot at the Champions League. Rapid will enter the 2020/2021 competition in the second qualifying round.

Overall, if we take all competitions into account, the former AEK prospect grabbed 20 goals and seven assists in his most productive campaign yet:

Furthermore, Fountas ended the season as the third highest scorer of the Bundesliga in Austria, trailing only Patson Daka (24 goals, RB Salzburg) and Shon Weissman (30 goals, Wolfsberger). Naturall, the head coach of the senior Greek national team, John van ‘t Schip, is known to be keen to give Fountas a chance when international football eventually returns.

Moreover, it will be interesting to see if clubs from bigger leagues make enquiries about Fountas’ availability, with his value rated at 1.6 million euros by Transfermarkt. His existing contract with Rapid Vienna is due to expire in the summer of 2022.
