SLGR Standings: Four points separate AEK and PAOK

AEK increased their advantage to four points over PAOK in second position of the Super League playoffs, while champions Olympiacos cruised to a 4-2 victory against Aris in Thessaloniki.

The Enosi are closing in on the UEFA Champions League. During the first half against OFI at the Olympic Stadium, AEK were admittedly far from their best, but two goals from Nelson Oliveira and Stratos Svarnas ensured that Massimo Carrera’s troops put the game to bed. As a result of their 2-0 triumph, AEK are now four points clear of third-placed PAOK, who could only draw 0-0 against Panathinaikos in Thessaloniki. Only three rounds remain in the 2019/2020 campaign.

Elsewhere, Olympiacos made an improvement following their derby draw with Panathinaikos at the weekend, producing a strong attacking performance to defeat Aris 4-2 at the Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium. Giorgos Masouras and Ahmed Hassan both scored twice for the Erythrolefki, while Giannis Fetfatzidis and Petros Bagaliannis got on the board for Aris. The Thessaloniki-based club are still two points ahead of OFI in fifth position.

Player of the Week: Ahmed Hassan (Olympiacos)

The 27-year-old Egyptian forward is in good form for Olympiacos. At the end of the first half, Hassan neatly dinked the ball over Julian Cuesta to double Olympiacos’ advantage, before he converted a penalty in the second half to score his fourth goal in three games.

Goal of the Week: Giorgos Masouras (Olympiacos)

Masouras’ second in Thessaloniki was all about the superb cross. On the left flank, Vasilis Torosidis whipped in a fantastic ball towards the penalty area, finding Masouras who subsequently prodded it past Cuesta to put the match out of sight.
