Olympiacos, who also won 2-0 against Platanias in mid-week to seal a place in the Greek Cup quarter-finals where they will meet AEK, were ahead after just nine minutes through Marko Marin.

The Piraeus giants doubled their advantage eight minutes before half-time when Karim Ansarifard scored to seal another three point haul which saw them move back to the top of the table, one point clear of AEK and PAOK.

It was Garcia’s first league match since the 44-year-old Spaniard he was brought in to replace Besnik Hasi.

Olympiacos were strong favorites to win this matchday 17 clash and return to the top of the table and they did so with the minimum of fuss, Marin scoring his fifth goal of the season nine minutes in with a clinical clipped finish over Lamia goalkeeper Nikos Papadopoulos.

The German forward was sent clean through by an excellent pass from Kostas Fortounis, with the Greek international midfielder claiming his fifth assist of the campaign in stylish fashion.

Olympiacos dominated the play for long spells, with possession at one point reaching 78-22% in favor of the home side. So it came as no surprise when Ansarifard made it 2-0, albeit in fortunate circumstances.

Lamia defender Anestis Anastasiadis was guilty of committing a woeful error, giving up possession far too easily on the edge of his own penalty area to Belgian midfielder Guillaume Gillet, who squared to Iran striker Ansarifard to score.

Lamia struggled to gain any meaningful possession and their only threatening moment came from a set-piece in the 66th minute when Anastasiadis leaped to meet Piti’s corner only to head narrowly wide of Silvio Proto’s post.
