VVV Venlo released this following statement on Tuesday:

“VVV Venlo adds a new striker. Georgios Giakoumakis, a 25-year-old, has signed a two-year agreement with our organisation with the option to extend it for another season.”

“I’ve been following Dutch football all my life,” stated Giakoumakis after signing the contract. “I like the attacking style of the Eredivisie. I want to prove myself here, not just by scoring, but by also helping the team in any way possible. I am really happy that VVV Venlo is giving me this opportunity.”

Giakoumakis has left AEK after three tough seasons with the Enosi. Over the course of his spell at AEK, the 25-year-old only scored one goal in the Super League, grabbing the dramatic winner against Olympiacos on the road in the triumphant 2017/2018 campaign. He was subsequently sent on loan to OFI and Gornik Zabrze.

The powerful Heraklion-born forward registered three goals in 12 Ekstraklasa appearances for Gornik in the second half of the 2019/2020 season.
