Giakoumakis is on fire in Poland. Since the Ekstraklasa resumed after the coronavirus break, the 25-year-old AEK loanee has scored three goals in the championship, with his latest marker arriving today against Lodz away from home. With 61 minutes on the clock, the Greek striker connected with a low pass across the box, neatly turning the ball beyond the goalkeeper into the far right corner. Gornik Zabrze won the match by a score of 3-1.

Right-back Stavros Vasilantonopoulos, who is also on loan at Gornik Zabrze from AEK, played a key role as he opened the scoring in the 45th minute with a powerful drive. Vasilantonopoulos’ first goal for Gornik Zabrze had been tallied in March in a 3-2 win against Cracovia.

It’s also worth noting that Giakoumakis won the penalty for Gornik Zabrze’s second goal of the game. Both Giakoumakis and Vasilantonopoulos played the full 90 minutes.

At the moment, Gornik Zabrze occupy first place of the Ekstraklasa playouts, holding 47 points from 32 matches.
