Giannis among the leaders in early voting for NBA ASG

The NBA has released the first returns of fan voting for the 2020 All-Star Game with Giannis Antetokounmpo among the early frontrunners.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is the early frontrunner to represent the NBA’s Eastern Conference at next month’s NBA All-Star Game in Chicago after the league released the early returns of fan voting.

Antetokounmpo has already received 1.073.358 votes to lead the Eastern Conference, while his tally sits second overall with the Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic the only player to amass more votes (1.073.957) thus far.

The next closest player to Antetokounmpo out of the Eastern Conference is Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers who has received 606.534 votes through the first returns.

Antetokounmpo, Doncic, and the Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James are the only players to amass more than one million votes thus far,

If Antetokounmpo finishes as the leader of voting out of the Eastern Conference then he will be named a team captain for the second-straight season before going head-to-head with the winner of the Western Conference ballot in an All-Star Draft.

Voting continues through 20 January with fan voting accounting for 50% as the NBA also accounts for votes from players, coaches, and members of the media.

The United Center in Chicago will play host to the NBA All-Star Game on 16 February.
