Giannis' journey to NBA stardom to be retold in Disney feature film

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s journey to NBA superstardom is set to be the subject of a feature film on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+.

By now you’d be hard-pressed to find a basketball fan that doesn’t know Giannis Antetokounmpo. Since being drafted into the league at the 2013 NBA Draft, Antetokounmpo has taken the league by storm by constantly improving year-over-year -- a trend that helped guide his Milwaukee Bucks to the Eastern Conference Finals last season and MVP honours for the Greek Freak.

The story behind Antetokounmpo’s journey is one that is a little less publicized, however, as the path from Greece to the NBA isn’t a well-travelled road. Aside from glimpses into Antetokounmpo’s childhood in special features like TNT’s “Finding Giannis” or Antetokounmpo’s appearance on the CBS program 60 Minutes, not much has been told about Antetokounmpo’s humble beginnings in Greece.

That will all change in the coming months after it was revealed on Friday that Disney is set to produce a feature film about Antetokounmpo’s life story and journey to the NBA in an exclusive to its upcoming streaming service, Disney+.

Although all the details have yet to be confirmed, it appears Antetokounmpo’s rise to superstardom from his childhood in Sepolia will hit screens around the world in the near future.
