Guillaume Gillet, who has been in Olympiacos’ transfer talks for quite some time now, is officially a player of the Erythrolefki. The 33-year old defensive midfielder arrived in Greece yesterday and passed his necessary medical tests before signing his new contract. Gillet is a personal choice of coach Besnik Hasi who has worked with the player during their mutual stay at Anderlecht.

After signing with Olympiacos he stated ““I am really happy to be here. It has been a long and tough process for my transfer here, so now I am more than thrilled to have finally signed it; I am looking forward to meeting my new teammates and do some great stuff on the pitch.”

Gillet began his young career in Belgium and his good performances earned him a move to Gent in 2006. His big career jump came in 2008 when he signed with Belgian giants Anderlecht and remained there for 6 seasons, celebrating 4 Belgian League titles, 1 Belgian Cup, and played at the top level in the UEFA Champions League. In 2015, he played on loan with French Ligue 1 side Bastia where he made 38 appearances in league and cup play. His showings in the French top flight led to a move to Nantes where he remained until he signed with Olympiacos on Monday.

Gillet has been a name high on Hasi’s list for the Olympiacos midfielder and will use his abilities and rich experience to help Olympiacos qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stages and win yet another league title.

Gillet has been added to Olympiacos’ roster for the upcoming matches against Rijeka, taking the place of Andre Martins who looks to be well on his way out of the Piraeus club.
