AEK looked to protect their defence but failed to strike on the counter, while APOEL on the other hand had the majority of the possession without creating clear scoring opportunities.

These were APOEL’s first lost points of the season after four consecutive wins. The defending champions occupy third place with 13 points and still with three games on hand. AEK are a point behind in fourth with 12 points.

THE MATCH

APOEL started strongly, but AEK with a strong defensive play limited their attacks. An effort from Andre Vidigal was blocked into a corner, while a header from Linus Hallenius went just out.

Two minutes into the second half APOEL came close to a breakthrough, as Vidigal was denied by Tono Ramirez, with the Spanish keeper denying the goal impressively with his legs.

Moments later, the action moved into AEK’s penalty area, as Lucas Souza met a cross and shot inches wide. As the time went by APOEL kept pushing with more intensity.

In the 72nd minute Alef dos Santos was able to score after a free-kick but he was correctly ruled offside. Five minutes later Praxitelis Vouros had the long effort, but Tono was ready for it.
