Goumas names squad for next European Championship qualifiers

The head coach of the under 21 Greek national team, Giannis Goumas, has named his squad list for the upcoming UEFA European Championship qualifiers against Croatia and San Marino away from home.

Greece’s quest to qualify for the final tournament of the U21 European Championship continues. At the moment, the unbeaten Greeks occupy second place of Group 4 with three wins and one draw on the board, but they do have one game in hand over leaders the Czech Republic. The most recent qualifier took place in November 2019 when Greece heroically defeated Scotland 1-0 in Edinburgh despite having been reduced to 10 men during the second half.

On September 3, Greece will face Croatia on the road (20:00 Greek time), before subsequently taking on San Marino away (21:30 Greek time) three days later. Goumas has summoned these following players to the team:

Goalkeepers: Marios Siampanis (Olympiacos), Antonis Stergiakis (Slavia Sofia), Vasilis Xenopoulos (Panathinaikos).

Defenders: Konstantinos Apostolakis (APOEL), Alexandros Katranis (Hatayspor), Dimitris Nikolaou (Empoli), Stefanos Evangelou (Panionios), Odysseas Lymperakis (Panionios), Giorgos Antzoulas (Asteras Tripolis), Apostolos Diamantis (OFI), Spyros Natsos (Atromitos), Giorgos Liavas (Panetolikos).

Midfielders: Theocharis Tsingaras (PAOK), Giannis-Fivos Botos (AEK), Ioannis Papanikolaou (RKS Rakow), Konstantinos Balogiannis (PAOK), Giannis Bouzoukis (Panathinaikos), Marios Vrousai (Willem II), Giannis Oikonomidis (Panionios), Giorgos Daviotis (Atromitos).

Forwards: Theodosios Machairas (AEK), Dimitris Emmanouilidis (Panathinaikos), Fotis Ioannidis (Panathinaikos), Efthymis Christopoulos (AEK), Anargyros Kampetsis (Panathinaikos).
