This year, the SOCCA World Cup - which sees teams consisting of six players compete against each other on a small pitch - is being held in Rethymno, Crete with the host nation qualifying for the semi-final stage with a thrilling 4-3 victory against England on Saturday. Two halves of 20 minutes are played in each match.

Konstantinos Katsouranis, who won UEFA Euro 2004 as a key member of the Greek national team, is representing Greece at this competition. The games are being played at the Leisure Leagues Stadium in Rethymno.

Initially, England took the lead in the quarter-final clash, but Greece responded with an equaliser on the brink of the half-time break.

At one point, the Greeks boasted a two-goal advantage in what turned out to be a highly eventful second half, however Tyrone Sterling equalised for England in the last minute of normal time.

Nevertheless, in stoppage time, Dimitris Thanasai unleashed an unstoppable effort from distance which flew into the net to take Greece into the semi-finals.

Greece will play Russia in the Last Four on Sunday at 14:00 local time.

The Greek team had previously defeated Croatia (2-0), Latvia (2-0) and Chile (4-2) at the tournament while drawing with Egypt (2-2) and Mexico (0-0).
