Greece’s U20 Women’s National Team will remain in Division B of the FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship after finishing ninth at the final tournament in Oradea, Hungary.

A disappointing group phase saw Greece finish 0-5 and at the foot of the Group A table, a section that included eventual fourth-place finishers Romania, Lithuania, Israel, Great Britain, and the Ukraine.

After not qualifying for the knockout phase of the tournament, the Ethniki Neon Gynaikon redeemed themselves with back-to-back wins over Iceland and Great Britain in the classification games for ninth through twelfth.

Meanwhile, on a brighter note for Greece, Angeliki Vintsilaiou’s 4.9 assists per game was the highest average of any player in the tournament.

Greece’s performance at the 2018 edition of the tournament means the Ethniki Neon Gynaikon will remain in Division B for the 2019 edition, which has been the case since Greece were relegated to Division B in 2016.

Greece will hope to return to Division A by repeating their past success in the lower tier, which has seen Greece win three medals – gold, silver, and bronze – in Division B.
