Greece U17 progressed to the Elite Round of European Championship qualifying with ease. Having thrashed Azerbaijan on Wednesday, Greece were in confident mood ahead of the second game against Kazakhstan, and the hosts duly claimed an emphatic 5-1 triumph in Nafpaktos. It has now been confirmed that Germany and Greece have already qualified from Group 9 with six points each.

Christos Liatsos opened the scoring with a penalty in the first half, before Giorgos Koutsias doubled the advantage in the 48th minute. The Kazakhs did claw one back, but more goals from Liatsos, Fotis Kitsos and Apostolos Christopoulos sealed the deal. Kazakhstan finished the game with 10 men after Roman Chirkov was dismissed with a second yellow card.

Unfortunately, Greece U19 couldn’t make it a perfect day of victories, as they conceded a heavy 5-2 defeat to Iceland in Group 4 of European Championship qualifying.

Belgium, who are hosting all group matches, possess six points and will play against Greece in the concluding game. Both Iceland and the Greeks have three points, while Albania bring up the rear with zero points on the board.

The top two teams in the group qualify for the Elite Round.

Vasilis Sourlis and Panagiotis Tzimas scored the two Greek goals after Iceland had taken an unassailable 5-0 lead.
