The completion of the 2019/2020 domestic campaign has been put back by a month. Originally, the Greek Cup final was due to be contested on Sunday 26 July at the Georgios Kamaras Stadium in Rizoupoli, but it has now officially been postponed after controversy emerged concerning the venue. Olympiacos were outraged at Rizoupoli being named the host of the event as a consequence of the arena’s poor condition.

The police also stated that it wouldn’t be able to guarantee the safety of the participants in Rizoupoli.

According to reports, Olympiacos were willing for the match to be played at the OAKA, but it has now been confirmed that the game won’t be staged on Sunday. The EPO is instead planning to play the AEK - Olympiacos showdown at the OAKA on August 30.

The 2020/2021 Super League season will subsequently begin on September 12.

The decision to play the final on August 30 at the OAKA will be ratified at the scheduled Board of Directors meeting next Monday.

In the semi-finals of the competition, AEK defeated Aris in dramatic circumstances, while Olympiacos saw off the challenge of PAOK in a tough tie. No team except PAOK has won the Greek Cup since 2016 when AEK beat Olympiacos 2-1 at the OAKA.
