Guerrero, Meriah both leave Olympiacos while new signings arrive

Both Miguel Angel Guerrero and Yassine Meriah have left Olympiacos on loan deals for the remainder of the campaign, while Cafu and Emre Mor are set to join the Piraeus club.

When the season began, Guerrero was the starting striker for Olympiacos, but he gradually fell out of favour as Youssef El Arabi impressed with his prolific form. As a result, the 29-year-old forward spent a lot of time on the Olympiacos bench, and he has subsequently left for Leganes on loan for the remainder of the 2019/2020 season:

The signing of Ahmed Hassan from Braga resulted in Guerrero being offloaded.

This season, Guerrero made a grand total of 27 appearances for Olympiacos across all competitions, contributing with six goals and two assists. Guerrero had joined Olympiacos from Leganes in the summer of 2018.

MERIAH ALSO LEAVES

Not many Olympiacos fans will miss Yassine Meriah. Although he initially started the season in good form, the Tunisian centre-back then contrived to commit a series of blunders in crucial games for Olympiacos, notably in the UEFA Champions League match against Tottenham Hotspur. Meriah, out of favour with Pedro Martins, has been loaned to Kasimpasa of the Turkish Super Lig:

Kasimpasa, currently occupying 16th place of the Super Lig, do have a purchase option for Meriah in the summer.

The 26-year-old defender participated in 18 Olympiacos matches in the first half of the campaign. He transferred to the Erythrolefki from CS Sfaxien in July 2018.

EMRE MOR ARRIVES

Turkish winger Emre Mor, under contract at Celta Vigo, has arrived in Greece ahead of his loan move to Olympiacos:

During the first half of the season, the 22-year-old attacking midfielder played as a loanee at Galatasaray, but he failed to make an impact as he competed in 17 games without registering any goals or assists. Mor, holding both Turkish and Danish citizenship, will hope to get his career back on track at Olympiacos.

Mor has played in 15 games and scored one goal for the senior Turkish national team. Olympiacos will reportedly be able to sign Mor on a permanent basis in the summer for six million euros.

In the past, Mor has also played for Nordsjaelland and Borussia Dortmund as a professional footballer. He was born in Denmark.

CAFU TO JOIN FROM LEGIA WARSAW

Cafu, a Portuguese central midfielder, has arrived in the Greek capital ahead of his permanent transfer to Olympiacos from Legia Warsaw:

It has been reported that Olympiacos agreed to pay Legia 400,000 to sign Cafu. He has been signed as a replacement for Yassine Benzia, who left Olympiacos for Dijon after a miserable spell in Piraeus.

Cafu, 26, played in 10 matches for Legia Warsaw in the 2019/2020 season. As a youth player, he was on the books of Vitoria Guimaraes and Benfica in his home country, before he played abroad for Lorient, Metz and Legia. Transfermarkt values Cafu at 1.5 million.

MARKOVIC LOANED TO AEL

Serbian prospect Svetozar Markovic, 19, has been sent on loan to AE Larissa in order to gain more first-team football:

“AEL FC announces the loan signing of Serbian defender Svetozar Markovic from Olympiacos.”

Markovic, highly rated, was signed from Partizan Belgrade for 1.5 million by Olympiacos in 2019. Nevertheless, he was barely used by Martins, only competing in two Greek Cup games. It is predicted that Markovic will return to Olympiacos after gaining more experience of playing at senior level with AEL.
