Asteras Tripolis fought back from a goal down to salvage a 1-1 draw against Aris at the Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium on Sunday.

Asteras welcomed Aris to Tripoli for the early kick-off looking to build on last weekend’s dramatic late win against Panetolikos - a result which has them dreaming of getting within striking distance of the playoffs.

But they found themselves a goal down after 13 minutes when Fran Velez opened the scoring for Michael Oenning’s Aris side. The Thessaloniki club could not hold on to their lead for long, however, as Marc Fernandez struck after 26 minutes to level the match.

Both teams had chances to win the match but no further goals were scored and they had to settle for a share of the points - a result which does not help Asteras’ bid to make a late surge for a top-six finish and a place in the playoffs.

Asteras remain ninth with 26 points, but they are just two points adrift of sixth-placed OFI, who lost 4-0 at PAOK, while Aris are comfortable in fifth place with 33 points.
