In truth, Panathinaikos were far from their best at the OAKA Indoor Hall, struggling to shake off the challenge of their gritty opponents. Nevertheless, the Prasini eventually scraped through, winning both of the concluding two periods to clinch their 10th victory in as many games in the Basket League regular season.

Rick Pitino’s troops were coming off the back of a pulsating overtime victory against arch-rivals Olympiacos in the EuroLeague midweek.

Deshaun Thomas (16 points), Tyrese Rice (14 points), Wesley Johnson (11 points) and Nikos Pappas (10 points) all reached double figures for the reigning Greek champions, while Sean Evans achieved a double-double for Ifaistos Limnou with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Initially, Panathinaikos did win the first quarter by five points, but the away side subsequently claimed the second period 24-22 to make a game of it. Pitino expressed his disapproval with Panathinaikos’ performance after the match finished.

Still the only unbeaten team in the league, Panathinaikos continue leading the standings, while Ifaistos Limnou occupy eighth place with five wins and five defeats in 10 matches.

Panathinaikos will face Peristeri on the road next week. Ifaistos Limnou, for their part, will host Kolossos Rodou.
