After having a teleconference, the IOC announced that they are planning to hold the Olympics from July 24 to August 9 in Tokyo, Japan. As there are still over four months to go, the IOC said that they are in no rush to make a final decision at this point in time.

The IOC also addressed the issue of Olympic qualification systems, as many qualification events have been cancelled or postponed. To date, only 57 percent of athletes are already qualified for the Olympics. The IOC has now said that they will make “any necessary and practical adaptations” to qualification systems for various sports.

Despite this news from the IOC, a recent poll shows that 63% of the Japanese people want the Olympics to be postponed. Options include hosting the Games later this year, or in 2021. It should be noted that the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo were held in October.

While it has also been suggested that the 2020 Olympics take place without fans, the IOC has made it clear that they would not do that, even if it means they have to postpone the Games.
