Former EuroLeague champion Joey Dorsey is headed back to Greek basketball after agreeing to sign with Basket League side Panionios, the club has announced.

Dorsey, who helped Olympiacos capture the first of back-to-back EuroLeague titles, has been without a club since leaving Turkish second-tier side Best Balikesir at the end of the 2016/2017 season.

Panionios are hoping that Dorsey’s arrival will help bolster the club’s bid to avoid relegation after a sluggish 1-3 start to the season. At 34 years old, Dorsey will bring further experience to Panionios’ roster but the club are also likely in for tough time with the American big man thanks to his poor track record with discipline over the years.

After helping Olympiacos win the EuroLeague in 2012, Dorsey was released by the club nearly six months later after he publicly criticized the entire Olympiacos organization and refused to play for the club.

Although Dorsey would later apologize, he quickly moved on with stops in Turkey, Spain, and even the NBA as he joined the Houston Rockets roster during the 2014/2015 season.

Following an offseason trade from the Rockets to the Denver Nuggets in 2015, Dorsey was waived by Denver and promptly returned to European basketball with Galatasaray before starting a second stint with at Barcelona, for whom he played before his return to the NBA.

Dorsey’s departure from Barcelona followed a familiar script as the Spanish giants opted to release Dorsey from his contract nearly six months before it was set to expire over disciplinary reasons.

Despite his faults, Dorsey remains one of the most emphatic dunkers ever to play in Greece and should provided the Panionios faithful plenty of highlight reel plays.
