KALAMATA 3-0 AE LARISSA

AE Larissa are unbeaten in five consecutive Super League games, but after defeating Panathinaikos in Athens at the weekend, they received a surprising 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Kalamata on the road. Kalamata are currently playing in the Football League.

After both teams missed promising chances in the early stages, Kalamata took advantage of a goalkeeping error to take the lead in the 39th minute as Vangelis Alexopoulos fired the ball into the gaping net.

Alexopoulos doubled Kalamata’s lead in the second half as he scored with a powerful effort when clean through. With seven minutes remaining, Nikos Golias received a second yellow card for AEL, and Alexopoulos subsequently sealed his hat trick in stoppage time to put Kalamata on the verge of qualifying for the next round.

OLYMPIACOS VOLOS 0-3 PANIONIOS

Rock bottom of the Super League table, little is going right for Panionios this season, but they gave their supporters something to smile about on Wednesday as they defeated Olympiacos Volos 3-0. The game was played at the Alcazar Stadium in Larissa.

Following a rather dull first half, Panionios took the lead in the 56th minute, as Panathinaikos loanee Dimitris Emmanouilidis converted a penalty. Giannis Oikonomidis made it two for Panionios not long later with a wonderful half-volley.

Emmanouilidis grabbed Panionios’ third in the closing minutes from point blank range.

KAVALA 2-0 OFI

Just like AEL, OFI are flying high in the Super League, but they gave a poor performance in the Greek Cup today as they went down 2-0 to Kavala away from home. The likes of Dimitris Manos, Juan Neira and Kosmas Tsilianidis were included in the OFI starting line-up.

Vasilis Koutsoumpas gave Kavala the perfect start inside six minutes as his thumping header was too hot for OFI goalkeeper Oscar Whalley to handle.

Things went from bad to worse for OFI seven minutes before the break. Stooping to meet a floating cross from the right wing, Vasilis Papadopoulos directed his headed attempt into the far corner to put Kavala in a fantastic position.

Needing goals, OFI pushed hard in the second half, but they failed to create many clear chances and Kavala will now fancy their chances of qualifying for the next phase of the competition.
