24-year old goalkeeper Kapino was sent packing from Olympiacos during the opening stages of the 2017/2018 season, later joining Nottingham Forest in January. However, he endured a difficult spell in the English Championship, only participating in four matches and conceding five goals. As a result, Kapino decided to move to Germany, signing a 2+1 contract with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. The club confirmed the arrival with this statement on their official website:

“Stefanos Kapino has joined the goalkeeping squad of Werder Bremen. The 24-year old Greek arrives from English second division club Nottingham Forest.”

In his maiden interview with Werder Bremen, Kapino expressed his emotions at the move: “The Bundesliga is one of the world’s best leagues, I am very happy that I will play for Werder,” stated Kapino. “Werder already have a clear number one in Jiri Pavlenka? He was incredible last season, but I am here to help the team and I will do my best when I receive a chance.”

Previously, Kapino spent one year at German club Mainz in the 2014/2015 campaign after initially starting his career with Athenian giants Panathinaikos. Kapino has made nine appearances for the senior Greek national team.

Interestingly, Nottingham Forest signed former Panathinaikos shot stopper Luke Steele as a replacement for Kapino after the Greek’s departure.
