Karate: two medals for Greece in Chile

The Cadet, Junior & U21 World Karate Championships conclude in Santiago, Chile, with Greece’s Stefanos Xenos winning gold and Konstantina Chrysopoulou winning silver in their respective categories.

Xenos won gold in the U21 Kumite Male -60 kg, an event in which the 19-year-old was also crowned European champion earlier this year. Silver went to Saudi Arabia’s Meshari Alzuabi, and the bronze went to both Egypt’s Moamen Mohamed and Kazakhstan’s Yerkinbek Baitureyev.

Chrysopoulou took silver in the Cadet (U18) Kumite Female 54+ kg. Gold went to Morocco’s Aya Ouhra, and the two bronze medals went to Croatia’s Laura Lisac and Turkey’s Sudenur Aksoy. With the two medals from Xenos and Chrysopoulou, Greece earned an eleventh place finish in the overall medal table. The top three spots were occupied by Egypt, Turkey, and France.

Greece also had two fifth place finishes in Santiago. Charalampos Kalogeropoulos was fifth in the Cadet Kumite Male -70 kg, and Kyriaki Kydonaki was fifth in the U21 Kumite Female -68 kg.
