Korakaki, a 23-year-old from Drama in Macedonia, won gold and bronze medals in shooting at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She will be looking to add to her medal tally at this year’s Olympics in Tokyo. Before that, she will have the honor of being the first torchbearer after the flame-lighting ceremony in Olympia, which is set to take place on March 12. This marks the first time in history that a woman will be launching the Olympic torch relay.

The torch will then travel throughout Greece for a week, as the Greek leg of the torch relay will conclude on March 19. Then, it will be handed over to Japan at the historic Panathenaic Stadium in Athens. Pole vaulter Katerina Stefanidi, also a gold medalist at the 2016 Olympics, will be the last torchbearer in Greece.
