Kostas Antetokounmpo signs with Lakers

Kostas Antetokounmpo will continue his career in Los Angeles with the Lakers.

Earlier this week, Kostas Antetokounmpo signed on with the Los Angeles Lakers after being waived by the Dallas Mavericks. The younger brother of both Giannis and Thanasis, was the 60th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers and was immediately traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

In his first professional season, Kostas spent most of his time in the G League with the Texas Legends. He managed to make a debut in the NBA for the Mavericks on March 20, 2019 in a 118–126 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. With the Legends in the G League, he averaged 10.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, and 1.0 steal in 25.4 minutes.

After being let go by Dallas, Kostas was rumored with a move to Toronto and Los Angeles with the latter officially signing the 21-year-old on a waiver claim two-way contract. He will have a tough task ahead to gain a spot on the Lakers’ first team roster, which already houses multiple superstars suchs as Lebron James, Anthony Davis, and DeMarcus Cousins.

Kostas is currently in Greece preparing for the 2019 FIBA World Cup with the Greek national team. The young power forward was selected by coach Thanasis SKourtopoulos for next month’s event in China, however, it is unlikely that he will be chosen for the final 12-man roster.
