Koulouris competing with and beating Messi and Ronaldo

The goal scoring exploits of talented Atromitos striker Efthimis Koulouris have been well publicised in Greek football circles, but so great has his form in front of goal has been, he is now in the same breath as some of world football’s greatest players such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Koulouris’ 11 goals in 12 league matches puts him on an elite list and only French starlet, Kylian Mbappe, and Eintracht Frankfurt hitman, Luka Jovic, are younger than the 22-year old who moved down to Athens on a season-long loan move from PAOK.

He has been a revelation for the Peristeri club, showcasing his skill through the different types of goals he is able to score. This unpredictability has seen him become the top scorer in the Greek Super League, leading more experienced players such as Aleksandar Prijovic of PAOK (ironically the man who kept Koulouris out of the starting team at PAOK) who has eight so far this term. Ezequiel Ponce of AEK, Erik Jendrisek of Xanthi, and Vlad Morar of Panetolikos round out the top 5.

On a world football scale, he is going toe to toe with household names such as Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Salah, and Aubameyang. In fact, in the top 5 European leagues, Koulouris’ 11 in 12 strike rate sits him in third place, behind only Mbappe (12 in 11) and Emiliano Sala of Nantes (12 in 15).

Aside from the top 5 leagues, Mbaye Diagne has notched 16 goals in 14 appearances for Kasimpasa (Turkish Super Lig), Nikolay Komlichenko has 15 in 16 for Mlada Boleslav (Czech First League), and Stanislav Kostov has 15 in 18 for Levski Sofia (Bulgarian First Division).
