Marko Nunic’s early strike after eight minutes had given the home side the perfect start, but Dimis Almeida equalised in the 21st minute.

Nunic had the chance to put Larissa ahead again the second half, but he was denied by the woodwork and the Thessaly club were forced to settle for a point against their SuperLeague rivals from the North.

The result means Larissa moved up to ninth while Xanthi also moved up one place to seventh.

SuperLeague strugglers Levadiakos breathed life into their bid to avoid the drop on Sunday with a narrow 1-0 home win over Panaitolikos at the Livadeia Municipal Stadium.

Savvas Tsabouris scored the only goal of a tense and tightly-contested Matchday 21 encounter to clinch three vital points for Nikos Karageorgiou’s team.

It’s a victory which moves Levadiakos, who occupy the second relegation spot just above bottom club Apollon Smyrnis, to within one point of 14th-placed OFI Crete, who play on Monday against Lamia.

For Traianos Dellas’ Panaitolikos side, the Agrinio club remain in mid-table safety in eighth place with 27 points on the board.
