After an evenly-matched first-half in which neither side were able to break the deadlock, Aris bagged the three points courtesy of goals from Hamza Younes after 71 minutes and Nicolas Diguiny in the 75th minute.

Paco Herrera’s Aris, who are back in Greece’s top flight after a four-year absence, had too much quality for Larissa, who struggled to create chances against the hosts at the Kaftantzoglou stadium.

It remains to be seen if Aris are able to challenge the top clubs this season, but there is no doubting how important their fans will be to that. The home fans will play a big role when the club returns to the intimidating Kleanthis Vikelidis stadium, once the pitch renovation is completed.  Today, at the Kaftantzoglou stadium 18,000 Aris fans attended the match and created a great atmosphere and more will follow when the club returns to their home ground in Harilao. It will certainly be a challenge for any club to come here and get a result.

After just two games Aris lead AEK at the top of the standings, although both teams have six points, while Olympiacos, who announced the re-signing of Yaya Toure this evening, can join them on six points if they beat PAS Giannina at home in Sunday’s late match.
