It was a surprise for everyone when Christodoulopoulos suddenly left AEK in order to join arch-rivals Olympiacos. In the 2017/2018 campaign, the Greek international enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career, helping AEK claim the Super League crown with seven league goals. Nevertheless, after accusing AEK of applying too much pressure on him to extend his expiring contract, he took the decision to leave and sign for Piraeus giants Olympiacos.

Christodoulopoulos started in determined fashion with Olympiacos. In the UEFA Europa League qualifiers, he registered an impressive four goals in four appearances, firing Olympiacos past FC Luzern and Burnley to qualify for the group stage. In Group F, Christodoulopoulos competed in three matches, scoring a spectacular bicycle kick in the 5:1 victory against Dudelange.

In comparison, Christodoulopoulos participated in eight Europa League matches with AEK (group stage/Last 32), popping up with the winning goal to beat Rijeka away and then equalising against the same opponents in the second meeting in Athens. Christodoulopoulos also scored in the 3:0 qualifying win against Club Brugge in the preliminary phase.

At this point in time in the 2017/2018 season, the winger had scored 12 goals in 32 games across all tournaments, beating nine goals in 24 games this time around. However, Christodoulopoulos has more spent time on the sidelines injured this season, and in terms of goals per game average, he has made a small improvement on his showings in the previous campaign with AEK. Christodoulopoulos will have the chance to score against his former employers when AEK visit the Karaiskakis Stadium on this coming Sunday.

After a dip in form, Christodoulopoulos has made a positive start to 2019, hitting the target in three of the last five Super League matches in victories over PAS Giannina (2:1), Asteras Tripolis (2:0) and Panionios (4:0). To date, he has just the one assist with Olympiacos in the Super League, the exact same amount of league assists he made with AEK in the 2017/2018 season.
