Earlier in the season, Christodoulopoulos had extended his contract with Olympiacos until the end of August as a consequence of the coronavirus crisis, but the parties have instead decided to end their cooperation a month earlier than scheduled. Christodoulopoulos was absent from Olympiacos’ training session on Friday and is now free to search for a new team.

The experienced 33-year-old winger controversially left AEK for Olympiacos in 2018 after winning the Super League championship with the Enosi. Initially, Christodoulopoulos made a flying start to life with Olympiacos, but serious knee injuries subsequently ruined his stint in Piraeus. Christodoulopoulos only made five Super League appearances in the 2019/2020 season as Olympiacos romped to their 45th national crown.

Overall, Christodoulopoulos participated in 34 matches across all competitions as an Olympiacos player, contributing with 10 goals and two assists. Interestingly, this year he became only the second player to win the Greek title with AEK, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos.

Christodoulopoulos made history in 2018 by becoming the first player in history to play and score for AEK, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and PAOK at some stage of his career. Both APOEL and Apollon Limassol have been linked with a swoop for Christodoulopoulos in recent days.
