Leading pack record draws over the weekend in Football League

The leading pack in the Football League recorded draws over the weekend while Trikala continue to lead the standing with a five-point cushion over Ionikos.

The weekend’s derby in the Football League between Kavala and Trikala ended in a goalless draw. The league leaders, Trikala, were the better side int he first half, but after the restart, Kavala took the initiative and wasted good chances to steal the victory. The result keeps Trikala in first place with 36 points, five points ahead of second-placed Ionikos, while Kavala are tied for fourth, with Niki Volou, on 29 points. 

Ionikos failed to take advantage of Trikala’s slip up as they played to an entertaining 2-2 draw away to Ialysos. The visitors opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 31st minute through Kritikos, but Reklitis equalized for Ialysos in the same fashion in first-half stoppage time. The second half saw Ionikos push for a winner, and they were given another penalty 12 minutes from the end with Kritikos making no mistake from 11 meters for the second time in the game. Makrydimitris was sent off for the hosts in the process, but Ialysos fought back again and through Kone, pulled level again two minutes later to salvage a point. Ionikos remain in second place, five points behind leaders Trikala, while Ialysos are in 12th with just 17 points.

Veria failed to move into second place as they also played to a 2-2 draw away to Aspropyrgos. The hosts pulled ahead on two occasions with Kakko (21) and Francos (59), but Veria fought back twice through Pasas (37) and Vergonis (63) to register a point. Veria sit in third place, one point behind Ionikos, while Aspropyrgos are ninth with 20 points.

In other action, Olympiacos Volou were 1-3 winners away to Ierapetra while their local rivals, Niki Volou, were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Egaleo. Kalamata finally celebrated victory as they took down Diagoras 1-0 to keep their hopes for survival alive as Thesprotos moved out of the relegation zone with a 0-1 away win over Triglia.
