At first, AEK captain Mantalos was included in the roster for the two upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers, but the 28-year-old received an injury and won’t recover in time for these matches. The head coach of the Ethniki Omada, John van ‘t Schip, has chosen PAOK winger Limnios as the replacement for Mantalos.

Limnios had originally been summoned to the under 21 national team for games against Germany (friendly) and Lithuania (2021 UEFA U21 European Championship qualifier).

The 21-year-old made his debut for the senior national team in May 2018. This season, Limnios has competed in four games across all competitions for PAOK so far, scoring the one goal in a UEFA Europa League qualifier against Slovan Bratislava.

PAOK left-back Dimitris Giannoulis was also called up to the squad on Monday after initially being left out by the Dutch manager. Giannoulis, 23, was first summoned to the Ethniki under Michael Skibbe in May 2018 and held his place in the roster with former boss Angelos Anastasiadis at the helm. He will look to make his first appearance in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

On Thursday, Greece will face Finland on the road in a crucial encounter, before hosting minnows Liechtenstein at the Olympic Stadium on September 8.
