Giannis Skondras was the hero of the night for Sotiris Antoniou’s Lamia side with a two-goal salvo in the second half after Thuram had given the Fthiotida club a first-half lead with his second goal in as many games.

The victory followed up Lamia’s win over Volos at the Lamia Municipal Stadium, and the 12th-placed club have now put seven points worth of breathing space between themselves and second-from-bottom Panetolikos.

What was even more remarkable was the fact that the two goals Skondras scored were the first that the 29-year-old former Atromitos and PAOK player had scored since the 2014-15 season.

For Larissa, the shock will take some time to sink in. The high-flying Thessaly club came into the match hoping to claim three points which would have sent them third in the table, but Michalis Grigoriou’s men remain sixth.

Not only that, it’s the club’s first defeat since the 1-0 loss to Panionios in Nea Smyrni in Athens on September 15.
