Manolas certainly made his mark in the Italian capital. After transferring from Olympiacos in August 2014, Manolas subsequently starred for Roma, quickly turning into the team’s leading centre-back with his agile, alert and passionate style of game. In the end, Manolas would spend five years at Roma, amassing over 200 official appearances for the Giallorossi across Serie A, the UEFA Champions League and Italian Cup. Overall, he scored eight goals with Roma, none more famous than his dramatic winner against Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the 2017/2018 Champions League:

However, in July 2019, Napoli came calling, signing Manolas for a grand total of 36 million euros. The gifted Greek defender, one of the best players in his position on the continent, isn’t particularly popular among Roma fans given the nature of the transfer, but even they would acknowledge the fact that he was a fantastic figure for their team. Manolas, known to possess a rather tricky character, caused controversy in the national team after reportedly asking for the Hellenic Football Federation to sack then head coach, Angelos Anastasiadis.

The 28-year-old has been included in the Roma Team of the Decade alongside the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Mohamed Salah and the legendary Francesco Totti.

AS Roma best starting XI of the decade:

Alisson Becker, Aleksandar Kolarov, Castan, Kostas Manolas, Alessandro Florenzi, Daniele De Rossi, Miralem Pjanic, Radja Nainggolan, Francesco Totti, Mohamed Salah, Edin Dzeko.
