On Thursday, AEK released the team’s training report, stating that injured club captain Petros Mantalos is training with the group again. With the season slowly coming to a close, there is growing hope that the 26-year old will take to the pitch again before the campaign ends. Back on October 29 2017, Mantalos received a horrible cruciate ligament rupture to his left knee in a 1:0 win against Panionios, leaving him on the sidelines for at least six months. However, his recovery process has gone well, and the midfielder is closing in on his long-awaited return.

Despite not playing since October, Mantalos has still made a huge contribution to AEK’s historic campaign. While injured, the Enosis captain attended all matches and continued leading the team, helping the players to display their best qualities. A perfect example is the controversial battle with PAOK in Thessaloniki, where Mantalos travelled with the team and participated in the preparation process. His presence has played a crucial psychological role, keeping the team’s morale high.

AEK head coach Manolo Jimenez has warned Mantalos not to rush his comeback, but it seems highly likely that the talented midfielder will be seen in the Super League again in the coming weeks.
