On Monday, Promitheas released this following statement:

“Promitheas Patras BC announces the signing of a contract with Vangelis Mantzaris, welcoming him to the organisation’s family.”

Mantzaris, who won two EuroLeague championships and three Basket League titles with Olympiacos during a lengthy eight-year stay in Piraeus, had moved to UNICS Kazan in the summer. However, the 29-year-old guard failed to settle in the Tatarstan region of Russia, subsequently leaving the club and returning to his homeland with Promitheas.

In the EuroCup, Mantzaris averaged 3.9 points, 2.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game for UNICS, while tallying a match average of 4.4 points, 2.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds in the VTB United League.

Mantzaris will be eligible to represent Promitheas in the EuroCup, with the Patras-based club set to play against EWE Baskets Oldenburg, Germani Leonessa Brescia and Umana Reyer Venezia in the Last 16.

MAVROKEFALIDIS ALSO JOINS PROMITHEAS

Last week, Promitheas had also confirmed the signing of the experienced Loukas Mavrokefalidis:

“Promitheas Patras BC announces the signing of a contract with Loukas Mavrokefalidis, welcoming him to the organisation’s family.”

The tall center, 35, penned a deal with Promitheas after Giorgos Bogris had left the club for Tenerife.

Initially, Mavrokefalidis began the current campaign with Ionikos Nikaia in the Basket League, averaging 19.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in the championship. He has previously played for the likes of PAOK, Olympiacos, AEK, Maroussi, Barcelona and Panathinaikos in his lengthy career.
