In December, Super League referee Tzilos was set upon by four hooded individuals when going to work in Larissa. Tzilos was dragged out from his car, beaten by the attackers, and police and ambulance services promptly arrived on the scene after members of the public had made the relevant telephone calls. Tzilos was transported to the General University Hospital of Larissa after he had received heavy blows to his body.

Initially, it was reported that the vice-president of a Super League club had been in contact with one of the perpetrators, but new reports in the media have now suggested that it was in fact Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis who was involved in the organisation of the assault against Tzilos.

In a new report published by zougla.gr, a controversial media outlet, the perpetrators allegedly had contact before and after the attack on Tzilos with the Capital Ship Management Company (owned by Marinakis), Olympiacos Communications Manager Konstantinos Karapapas, Capital Ship Management Company Managing Director Nikolaos Syntychakis and other associates of Marinakis. Telephone calls between the involved parties, which took place using hidden numbers, have supposedly been traced.

None of the above allegations have been proven and Olympiacos have vehemently denied any involvement in the assault.
