Paolo Tramezzani, Thomas Doll, Kare Ingebrigtsen, and now Marinos Ouzounidis. The Greek coach returned to APOEL and became the fourth manager to guide the team this season.

Ouzounidis signed with APOEL on Wednesday, penning a deal until May 2020.

Ingebrigtsen could not improve APOEL’s problematic performances, forcing the administration to sack another coach in what looks to be the club’s worst season in recent years. Athletic director, Domenico Teti, was also fired, paying the price for not helping enough from his position.

Ouzounidis coached APOEL from July 2006 to January 2008, winning the 2006-2007 championship title. As a player, he played with the team from 2001 to 2003, winning the 2001-2002 championship.

APOEL’s legend and former captain Nuno Morais will be part of his coaching team as an assistant alongside Bledar Kola and Nikos Giagkou, who are coming with Ouzounidis. Goalkeeper coach Michalis Morfis and training coach Pavlos Kinan will remain in their positions, while Loukas Hadjiloukas will become head of scouting.

Ouzounidis’ second spell with the Nicosia giants will surely be a challenging one. APOEL are fighting for their eighth consecutive league title, trailing leaders Anorthosis by five points. They also have two matches against Basel in the UEFA Europa League round of 32.

His first match in charge will be a derby against Apollon Limassol this weekend.
