As previously reported on AGONAsport, Martins has decided to continue coaching Olympiacos beyond the 2019/2020 campaign, despite the 49-year-old wishing to work in a stronger championship in the future. Initially, it was thought that the new agreement with Olympiacos would only last for one year, but reports from gazzetta.gr and SDNA have revealed that Martins will in fact extend his contract until the completion of the 2021/2022 season.

His current contract with Olympiacos is due to expire at the end of June.

Martins’ yearly salary in Piraeus will reportedly now be set around one million euros. The two parties are expected to officially sign the papers on either Wednesday or Thursday.

The Portuguese coach is currently finalising his plans for the resumption of training sessions. Last week, the Hellenic state confirmed that teams can return to group training from May 5, with the Super League playoffs and playouts predicted to resume during June. Olympiacos boast a huge 14-point advantage over second-placed PAOK after remaining undefeated in the regular season.

Olympiacos are also waiting to play the second leg of their Round of 16 tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the UEFA Europa League.

Overall, Martins has been at the Olympiacos helm for 95 matches across all competitions so far, registering 64 victories, 18 draws, and 13 defeats. Martins has inspired the Piraeus-based organisation to famous European victories against AC Milan and Arsenal in the Europa League.
