Misic enjoying outstanding season with PAOK

AGONAsport takes a closer look at the performances of PAOK midfielder Josip Misic, who is enjoying the best season of his career.

Misic initially failed to make an impact when he arrived from Sporting Lisbon in January. Under the leadership of Razvan Lucescu, the Croatian midfielder couldn’t build up any momentum with the Dikefalos tou Vorra, not receiving a lot of playing time and not showing his true capabilities when given a chance to prove himself on the pitch.

However, as a result of the long-term injuries suffered by midfield duo Mauricio and Pontus Wernbloom, a space opened up for Misic in the PAOK team. The 25-year-old subsequently took full advantage of the chance presented to him and has been a consistent performer with Abel Ferreira at the PAOK helm.

The 25-year-old has been scoring some key goals too. With 10 Super League rounds in the books, Misic has already contributed with four goals and four assists, notably scoring the equaliser against Aris at the Toumba Stadium (2-2) and registering the winning marker at OFI with a superb strike (1-0). The Croat has participated in 38% of PAOK’s goals - a hugely impressive statistic for a central midfielder.

His other two goals in the Super League were scored in games against Panetolikos (2-1) and Lamia (3-0).

Following his rather underwhelming performances during the second half of the 2018/2019 campaign, there were little expectations of Misic before the new season began, but he has since shown that he is capable of making the difference on the pitch for this PAOK team. According to the latest reports, Misic wants to remain at PAOK on a permanent basis after his loan from Sporting expires next summer, with the player eager to sign a four-year deal with the reigning Greek champions.
