Kostas Missas will take over Fotis Katsikaris’ position as head coach of the Greek national basketball team and will lead the Ethniki in the upcoming Eurobasket tournament. As expected, EOK released an official announcement appointing Missas as the team’s new head coach.

After the announcement, the 64-year old manager stated that it is a great honor to coach the national team and is the highest position that one can accept in his homeland. He mentioned that he will get straight to work, will announce his assistant coaches, and will announce the team’s pre-selection roster for the upcoming Eurobasket tournament.

Training for the Eurobasket will begin at the end of July and contacts have already been made with multiple players that will be called up to the Ethniki. The only questions that remain are Kostas Koufos (has not confirmed if he will play in the Eurobasket) and Tyler Dorsey, who was drafted to the Atlanta Hawks. However, a recent statement mentioned that Dorsey will join Greece for the Eurobasket tournament if he is called up.

For sure call ups include: Calathes, Sloukas, Mantzaris, Pappas, Papanikolaou, Papapetrou, T. Antetokounmpo, G. Antetokounmpo, Printezis, Agravanis, Bourousis, Papagiannis, Bogris, and pssibly Perperoglou. Many young players are also expected to be called up for in the pre-selection roster to gain experience with the national team.

Greece will have plenty of friendlies to give before the Eurobasket tips off at the end of August including two tournaments in Greece in Patra and the OAKA stadium, a tournament in Belgrade, and two matches against Great Britain in London.
