On Monday, representatives of all 14 Super League clubs will participate in a conference call concerning the future of the 2019/2020 season, with the parties eager to prevent the championship from eventually being cancelled. Sporting leagues across the world are currently suspended as a result of the devastating coronavirus pandemic which has spiralled completely out of control in several countries.

It’s expected that teams won’t be allowed to train together again until April 30. However, if workouts can begin again on May 1, it is likely that the playoffs and playouts will subsequently start on May 16. A two-week training period is required before competitive football returns.

Reports from SDNA have suggested that the Super League will set a start date of May 16 for the playoffs and playouts during Monday’s conference call.

It has also been stated that ERT and Nova will not honour their broadcasting contracts in the event that the season is ended prematurely. This potential financial disaster, which would have major knock-on effects for the 2020/2021 season, is increasing the desire of clubs to start playing again as soon as possible.

If the Super League returns on May 16, matches will take place every three days, with the season finishing in the middle of June. Of course, all of this depends on the severity of the coronavirus situation in Greece, and if the state will issue the green light.

Olympiacos, PAOK, AEK, Panathinaikos, OFI and Aris all qualified for the championship playoffs, while Atromitos, AE Larissa, Asteras Tripolis, Lamia, Volos NFC, Xanthi, Panetolikos and Panionios dropped into the relegation playouts. The regular season finished on March 1.
